Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need continuing education (CE)?

To see what CE is required, verify a course has been reported, or see what courses you have completed before, log into NMLS and look at your Course Completion Record.  If a course is missing, call your course provider.

Directions for Viewing Your Record

NMLS is updated in real time. However, keep in mind schools have seven (7) calendar days to report to NMLS.

  • If you are compliant for CE or pre-licensure education (PE), the record will show a green checkmark.
  • If you need to complete a course, the record will show a yellow caution symbol.
  • If the record says “No Federal CE or PE Requirements” or “No State CE Requirements” you do not need to take education for that year or license.
  • Do not retake a PE course unless directed to by a state regulator (PE does not count towards CE).

A course I completed is not showing up in NMLS. Why?

Check with your course provider and request that they report your course completion to NMLS.

Course providers have seven calendar days to report to NMLS.

Be sure you give the school your correct NMLS ID and correct spelling of your last name as it appears in NMLS.

Schools will not report a course completion unless all course assignments are completed.

My CE is listed as "Pending." Why?

Your course completion record shows “pending” for 2023 because, as of January 1, the system sets a CE requirement for the new calendar year.

Just as you may have completed CE in 2022 to renew a license for 2023, you will be required to complete CE in 2023 to renew the license for 2024.

I am late on taking my CE course. How can I take late CE?

To make up CE for 2023 or earlier you need to complete Late CE.  Click the button below for information on how to complete late CE:

Why does my record say "No CE Required?"

You completed PE requirements this year, so you do not have a requirement to complete CE.
