Get Ready for Renewal – Start by Updating Your Account

The NMLS annual renewal period starts Nov. 1 and will continue through Dec. 31.

NMLS has a new and improved login experience that requires action the first time you login. We strongly encourage you to log in to NMLS before Nov. 1 to ensure your account is up to date when you start the renewals process.

Here are details on how to complete these steps:

  • Set up account recovery details – The new login experience will require you to enter an account recovery email the next time you log in to NMLS, if you haven’t already done so. We recommend that you use a personal email address that you will always have access to, regardless of your employer. This is important because NMLS will use the email address to help you retrieve your username and reset your password.
  •  The new login experience will also require you to verify your social security number and date of birth to ensure the information is correct. You only have to do this once.
  • Consolidate your NMLS accounts – If you have more than one NMLS account, NMLS now allows you to consolidate your accounts. Once you have set up your account recovery details, click Switch Users to add your additional accounts to the account you have updated.

Visit the NMLS Enhancements page of the NMLS Resource Center for more information on how to create your new login and consolidate your accounts.

Additional Steps to Prepare for Renewal

  • Review state-specific renewal requirements – State agencies start publishing their renewal requirements each year in September. Be aware of state-specific renewal deadlines, renewal fees and more that apply to your company. See the Annual Renewal page on the NMLS Resource Center for details.
  • Access on-demand renewal training – Whether your company is renewing its license for the first time or has gone through the process before, review the Renewals for Companies self-directed online course to prepare for renewals.
  • Your company must meet all renewal requirements in the states where it is licensed before a license renewal request can be submitted.

Visit the Annual Renewal page on the NMLS Resource Center for more information on how to prepare for and complete the license renewal process.
